Why only sell HVAC and Plumbing Companies?
In his words, “It just feels like the place I was meant to be.”
Back when he started his career, he was a financial advisor. He loved the finance and strategy part of the job as well as helping clients manage money, but reporting to an office with a suit and tie just wasn’t his style.
He saw the potential wealth and freedom that could come from being an entrepreneur, so he got to work building his pool cleaning empire. Once he understood the industry, he realized that acquiring other pool cleaning companies could be a much faster way to grow than by one account at a time. It’s here that he honed his negotiation and due diligence skills to acquire only companies that complimented his. He sold that company in 2012
After buying and selling his own companies, he began his career in business brokerage and started helping others sell theirs. As his brokerage career flourished, he purchased one of his own listings, a heating and air company.
After a few years of running an HVAC business and missing the brokerage world, he realized there was a huge service gap in helping owners of smaller trade companies. He sold his heating and air business to his son and daughter-in-law ( who still run it today) and switched his practice to selling HVAC and plumbing companies. In the last 6 years, he has sold over 130 of them.
Today, he sells a record number of HVAC companies every year. He’s an old-school guy who does business the old-fashioned way with no gimmicks or tricks. His philosophy is to educate and give back. With 300 articles, more than 80 educational videos, and dozens of speaking events, it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t heard his name in the HVAC space. “I’ve got the philosophy-Give as much as you can, earn trust. The rest will take care of itself.”
Nowadays, he still has an office, but he traded formal business wear for jeans and a button-down shirt a long time ago.
